Apes Schedule February and March 2008 Tour Dates to Coincide with Release of New Album
(Billboard Publicity Wire) February 9, 2008 -- Apes (http://theapes.com/) have confirmed 2008 tour dates in support of Ghost Games, which will be released on February 19, 2008 through Gypsy Eyes. More dates and details will be announced shortly including the west coast and SXSW.
Apes have scheduled a special performance to coincide with the Ghost Games release for their hometown of Washington, DC on Friday, February 29 at Black Cat (mainstage).
Opening the evening will be an electrifying electronic dance set by the inimitable Kid Congo Powers of The Cramps/Gun Club/Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds fame - a consummate entertainer and legendary musician who should require no introduction. Stepping away, momentarily, from his usual rock band setup, solo Kid will be man and machines...beats and noise plus guitar.
Apes' fourth full-length album, Ghost Games, is the follow up to Baba's Mountain (Birdman, 2005) and is the first album to feature vocalist, Breck Brunson. The first focus track is "Beat of the Double," which can be heard streaming at http://www.myspace.com/apes and downloaded as a MP3 at http://theapes.com/audio/Apes_-_Beat_of_the_Double.mp3

When Apes' former singer, Paul Weil, left the band in 2005 to start a family after six years, three EPs, three full-length albums, and hundreds of legendary live shows, Apes found themselves scrambling for a replacement. Bassist Erick Jackson and keyboardist Amanda Kleinman met fellow visual artist Breck Brunson at a party in their hometown of Washington, DC, and - on nothing more than a hunch - asked him to come out to drummer Jeff Schmid's house the very next day to play music.
By the end of that first jam session, Apes knew they had found their man. Always an eclectic group - coming from varied musical backgrounds and tastes ranging from 60's and 70's rock, pop and psych to 80's hardcore to Providence noise to reggae to hip-hop - Apes found a singer with a similarly wide range of music interests, along with the vocal flexibility and willingness to experiment in order to make it all work. Furthering the mind-meld, Breck shared Apes' strong conviction that a powerful visual aesthetic, far from being an after-thought to the music, should inspire its creation and support its performance. Fans were treated to the new line up when Apes joined Liars, with seven brand new songs, during the summer of 2006.
Since the release of their last album, Apes have toured with punk legends, The Slits, Liars, Deerhunter, plus played dates with Spankrock, Klaxons and DMBQ.
PRESS QUOTES
"Psych/sludge rockers the Apes have been a fixture on the local scene since 1999 and have gone through a handful of personnel changes, but the current lineup has been delivering some of the group's best performances to date." - WASHINGTONPOST.com
"...Brunson, whose easy voice carries a trace of Ozzy's reedy timbre yet often gives in to an airy falsetto, brings a newfound levity that allows the band to loosen up and give in to their best and most organ-ic melodies. "Beat Of The Double" is, therefore, the best song of the Apes' already formidable career." - PAPERTHINWALLS.com
"Beat of the Double" will have new schoolers and art-rock enthusiasts all riled up." - XLR8R

To the novice, it might seem like one coin is as good as the next. However, that?s just not the case. To determine value of coins of the same type, grading is performed.
