Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) July, 18 2007 -- The Monterey Company, a leading provider of custom lapel pins, and military challenge coins, today announced the addition of a line of coins to its incredibly popular and diverse array of products. This new addition, custom geocoins, gives Monterey Company customers a total of 11 different types of coins to choose from.

Other coins making up The Monterey Company?s 11 diverse offerings include Air Force coins, Navy coins, Commander coins, military challenge coins, award coins and corporate coins.

The new Geo-coins enhance the current coin line by enabling customers to custom design their own geo-caching item to use in this worldwide game of treasure hunting. In addition, the new custom geo-coin line gives The Monterey Company?s customers the opportunity to engrave the coins with Groundspeak issued tracking numbers in order to give geo-cachers an easy and fun way to keep track of the new collectibles.

According to Paul Stark, The Monterey Company?s President, ?The Monterey Company has enjoyed incredible growth since the introduction of its custom coin line. Our customers love the fact that they can incorporate their own personal logo, insignia or corporate branding into a durable, tradable and collectible item. We expect the new custom geo-coin line to be received with similar enthusiasm.?

Falling in line with their current principles of custom-coin design, the geo coins are fully customizable -- from size, to material, to the detailed finishing effects of each coin.

?It?s extremely fulfilling to me that every day more and more individuals are becoming interested in taking time for their personal hobbies -- and more importantly, that they are taking pride in their own abilities to create something which will be valued by others. It is wonderful that geo-cachers can share their creations in such a innovative way as treasure hunting!? Stark added.

How to Make Hammered Coins
Old hammered coins were made in the first millennium BC using the hammered production method. As well as using the hammered method, many earlier coins were also made using a mould, where one mould was able to produce up to as many as 30 coins at one time. The mould method is well known to have produced, what is known as as, a tree of coins which would usually have a central hole. From there the coins were individually broken off and called cash. The word cash, as we know it today, originated from its colloquial use in China many centuries ago. Although this method was used in China up into the 19th century, the technique is no longer used today.
